Rainy Hong Kong

Warning: Read with patience. This is a long entry. Thanks.

We have gone to Hong Kong and returned. The trip was all right for me because it was raining quite a bit. So, we were not able to do much sight-seeing or street shopping. Or maybe, I really wanted to sight see more than shop. Instead, we ended up eating a lot and exploring shopping malls - not to shop, but just to explore. We also watched movie on one night when it was pouring.

Here are my after thoughts after surviving rainy HK.

1. The food servings were really big. But the girls were all so slim. How is that possible?

2. A must-go-to restaurant in HK is the Peking Restaurant at City Plaza HK. It's on the 2nd/3rd level of the huge mall and serves really nice Salted Egg Prawns. Our favourite is this melon cooked in some broth. It was very tasty. The Xiao Long Bao was disappointing. But the Cod Fish was really good too.

3. It is good to buy the 3-day MTR pass when you are there. Walking is absolutely possible because there are really many shops and malls along the streets. There were also tonnes of eateries. So, the one thing you do not have to worry is - lack of things to buy and lack of food to eat. That was why we ended up eating a lot. Cos when something interesting caught our eyes, we went in. But, buying the pass is still good. Cos we did stations hopping since it was raining, to catch a glimpse of every stop, which was kinda' fun!

4. We also popped by a neighbourhood mall. It was boring but we bought food at the supermarket.

5. People in HK walked very fast. The streets were almost always too small to accommodate everyone. I felt claustrophobic walking on the streets. The streets were so messy that I couldn't shop - cos I felt confused.

6. Speak Mandarin. I think they will attend to you more than if you speak English and look Chinese.

7. If you miss certain brands at a mall in the city because of lack of time, worry not. There were so many malls selling the same thing, with the same brand. I could find H&M almsot everywhere. And international labels almost everywhere too. Of course, I shopped at Mango again. Like always...

8. Many people own a Chanel!

Since it was a trip to celebrate our first marriage anniversary, we were happy to just spend time relaxing with each other.

"I appreciate you a lot because I have given you the most precious thing of my life... My Lifetime." - Baby

This is the first time I am travelling so light. But of course, I still stayed chic. I merely squeezed most of my clothes in and also brought lighter clothes.

Baby chose a ballerina picture to colour and wrote "Happy Anniversary" and gave it to me.

Oi Suen Guest House - It was almost like living in a rented room in a flat. The guest house itself was very clean and safe. But I couldn't say the same for the block. We even saw a bumper being put out to sun. It was a good experience staying in a guest house. Nothing bad about it. Just that, right below our block was Baby's favourite - Smelly Toufu. That was the biggest minus staying here.

We saw a strike outside DBS - they were still on the Lehman Brothers issue.

Some sights on the street. One of the shopping malls is called "Yong An", which is Ray's name! So, I took this picture for him.

Mona Lisa having an ice-cream. Made of slices of bread!

The bread - so creative!

K11, a shopping mall, was all sweets and candies. How inviting to hide from the rain.

So, how could I resist some? Especially gigantic ones.
(Note: I was wearing Crochet Trapeze Mini in Navy Blue from Moda Shoppe and flats from Pazzion.)

On our first night, we had our 1st Marriage Anniversary Dinner at Restaurant Petrus. It is one of the best fine-dining French restaurants (Michelin 2-star rating) in HK, located the 56 level of Shangri-La HK Island.  It offers a view of the harbour and TST. The service was impeccable. But the food was a tad disappointing (not every dish on our degustation menus were appealing to our taste buds). Nevertheless, the most invaluable is the companion and time spent at dinner. We ate for 4hrs so, it was really a good time to talk and catch up on time loss when we were both so busy back in Singapore.

The restaurant exuded opulence, extravagance and elegance in traditional French style.

We had a table next to the window and folded drapery.

As we were starving and could not make up our minds, we had two degustation menus. The most unglamarous thing we did at the restaurnt was - swapping plates and food. But well, we wanted to taste a little of everything. So, here are some pictures. The rest? We were too busy eating, criticising, chatting, swapping food and did not bother shooting.

And as always, some funny faces shots.

The restaurant did what I expected. They surprised us with something for our anniversary. If they didn't, I would be quite disappointed, given their standards.

Photo at the doorway - really full and sleepy.

I transformed the day look to night look by adding black tights and I swapped earstuds for pearl earrings.

The wall paintings were so vivid and beautiful.

The second day, we set off in our new shoes.

And did what tourists usually do - taking lots of photos at the harbour.
(Note: I was wearing Bright Turquoise Knitted Overlay from Moda Shoppe with a black tank top beneath. This overlay was good. It kept me warm in the malls and was cooling enough in the heat.)

Followed by a cheap ferry ride from TST to HK.

And bought egg tarts - in this case, egg cups. The yellow one was normal egg tart. The white one was egg white tart. We both liked the white one more.

From this shop

And of course, some street shopping shots.
From left: Colour Kimono Inspired clothings on the wall. An elderly looking at a Hardware Stall and there were so many of these shops along this street we were on. Some nice dresses at Ladies Market. A shop with many laterns.

We finally saw a Mahjong place. But we were only outside.

Baby's favourite smelly toufu place, right below our block.

The smelly toufu stall.

Last day, we were heading back. There was no photo of myself on the third day because it was raining non-stop. So, we kept eating. We also bought magazines and lounged around to read.
(Note: I was wearing Miss Selfridge Inspired Cardigan in White with Black with Fringe Sleeves Top in Silver from Moda Shoppe.)

New On the Menu

I just realised that in the recent blog posts, I been posting chicken menu. Well, that's one of the most convenient - especially roasted chicken.

So, here's another one.

Looking Autumn

I think I love the fall looks. Cos I love wearing trench coats and boots. I love how ladies look in their scarves and gloves without looking too bulky. I find this look... sexy.

So, I wore my trench dress. And I sneaked these shots in the lift when I finished yoga. I wore this dress with booties I bought in HK. Oh well... Since it makes me looks nutty wearing boots in Singapore, I invested in a few pairs of booties, to prepare myself for the fall/winter look.

Cooking on a Sickly Day

I was sick the weekend before I left for Hong Kong. Since I was home the whole day and Baby was away at COMEX, I decided to cook. Even when I am sick, I do not compromise on my food.

I bought organic barley sometime ago. So, I decided to try. I probably added too little sugar because it definitely did not taste good.

This was my favourite! I made Spinach with Chicken Udon for lunch. I made it Japanese style using dashi.

At dinner, I did not know what to eat and I was not very hungry. So, I whipped up something quickly with an inspiration from Jones the Grocer. It was some breakfast dish and I can't remember the name. Anyway, I added pasta sauce to blanched Spinach and added a few microwaved Legendary Sausages. Viola! Dinner was served.

IL Piccolo

I have been a big fan of The French Stall. And I knew they opened an Italian eatery. But, I just didn't know where. Or rather, I didn't know the Italian food place I have been patronising IS the one open by The French Stall. Until one day, I saw somewhere in my mailbox the email from them. And realised that I have already been eating there.

The Italian food here is worth every calorie count. I don't just eat pizza anywhere. Here? The pizza is calorie-worthy. The pasta? Good too. I love the Gnocchi. Yum yum.

Baby and I go there quite often because it is just a turn away from our home. It is located within the SPH canteen where Botak Jones is. Try it for yourself.

So, here are some photos.

Aglio Olio Vongole with generous serving of clams

See the generosity of the clams!

We tried this pasta with Pharma Ham and.... *drum roll*... EGG in the centre. It is absolutely sinfully delicious.

IL Piccolo next to a Korean food place that is not so worth the calorie.

P.s. In case you are wondering, I rate my food by calorie-worth or not. I am pretty conscious about what I put into my body because firstly, I am vain - always want to look pretty and slim. Secondly, I am health-conscious. So, if I really want to eat, I make sure that it must be worth the amount of calories I put into my body. So, I am pretty picky about food. I do not just eat anything and everything. ;) Baby said I have golden tongue. If I do not like eating something or from a place, I probably would never eat or return atgain. ;) This is my trick to staying in shape.

Lai Lai Beef Noodles

One day after Rock Kidz, I was starving. So, Baby took me to Lai Lai Beef Noodles (Taiwanese style) at Liang Seah Street. I have been craving for the beef noodles for a while. But I am such a sucker for loyalty card and membership that, after I am done with our meals, I insisted I must change my card for gift (since my card was full) that very day.

While I was doing so, "Mdm Fatimah" was happily booking our car somewhere down the street. I exchanged my card for a Watson's $10 gift card. But we also left Liang Seah with a summon of $30 and an angry Baby. If we left the place right after the meal, it would have been fine.

Oh well, I did not know I would be returning there again tonight with Suz and Grace. Nevertheless, here's our indulgence that Sunday.

Woo... My favourite! Pepper Salted Chicken. Super love the one at Lai Lai.

Guess what? This Braised Pig's Large Intestine was really nice. I don't usually like pig's large intestine but this was quite worth the calories.

Of course... here's the uber nice beef noodles which is always too huge because I would add side dishes and bubble tea and end up not being able to finish.

*Slurp*

Updates: 15 Sep 2010

I am back from HK! I will post a separate entry on this after I have downloaded all the photos. How could there be no photos for a travel log?

Anyway, I have been too tired to do anything until today. I went to bed early last night at 10.30pm after:
  1. I stepped out of my home looking very un-me. The guys asked if I did something to my hair (hinting I had bad hair day) and I looked like I was in one of my worst-dressed days (which is very seldom).
  2. Baby also commented my eye bags and eye rings were horrible. I took a look at the mirror and had a shock of my life. I decided I had to sleep.
  3. I was totally dysfunctional yesterday. My mind was in a blank. My eyes were heavy and I could barely hold my lids. I doubt toothpicks would help.
  4. While trying to read my latest purchased book (The Other Side of The Story by Marian Keyes), I could not get past the first two lines.
So, I went to bed after keeping the Koi bubble tea from Jason in the fridge.

The bed never felt more comfortable - I was totally enveloped by the softness of my goose-feather quilt and pillow, and the moment my head hit the pillow, I knocked out.

I did not wake up until this morning when Baby lightly touched my face and I woke up to see him looking at me lovingly. This is the best sight in the morning. :)

But I fell asleep shortly dreaming that my closet was missing and I was weeping badly. I woke up and was glad it was only a nightmare. My closet is still around. My clothes aren't missing!

Anyway, I feel so much better today. More functional than yesterday.

I started blogging on Wedding & Travel for Clara. Well, it was but now, I think it's pretty fun. Do visit http://blog.wedding-travel.com/lovebliss/ and read more! Couples who are getting married, blog there too!

Collection For Next Launch

I love Moda Shoppe's latest collection launching at 1pm!!! I should really have blogged this earlier but I didn't have time at all - absolutely no time due to a 7.30am presentation THIS morning. So, I have worked 6 hours already since I have been working since 6am. :)

Anyway, the following are clothes I bought for myself from our launch. I almost bought every colour of every design cos everything is good. The quality, the cut, the material. Super love all of them.

Anyway, although these are the ones I bought for myself, I am still aiming many pieces. So torn!!! What a business I got myself into. Haha. (Poor bank...)

I love this jacket. So love it! :)

Bought this for Kellyn and Reggie's beach wedding

I wanted to buy black and blue but bought Blue instead because I wanted a colour I have least. And this Blue is pretty. Definitely stands out.

This Miss Selfridge Inspired cardigan comes in three colours and I like all of them! White is classy and Chanel-looking. Blue is unique. Yellow is sweet - which I am aiming.
